MARIA BRINK says her debut solo project will arrive before next IN THIS MOMENT album

In a new interview with James Wilson-Taylor of U.K.’s Rock Sound, IN THIS MOMENT frontwoman Maria Brink confirmed that she is planning on releasing her debut solo album in the not-too-distant future.
“I am doing my first solo project between (IN THIS MOMENT‘s recently released ninth album, ‘Witch’, and the band’s next LP),” she said. “Maria Brink‘s COVEN — I’m gonna call it COVEN, and that’s gonna be my first thing that I’ve done as a solo artist. And then that gives Chris (Howorth, IN THIS MOMENT guitarist) and I some extra time to really perfect the next IN THIS MOMENT album between the two. I’m excited.”
Last June, IN THIS MOMENT began its next chapter with the release of the single “Sleeping With The Enemy”, out via Better Noise Music.

Brink commented: “With ‘Sleeping With The Enemy’ and our upcoming album, we’re confronting the darkness — whether it’s inside us or external. It’s about looking that darkness in the face and transforming it into empowerment. We feel so exhilarated and ready to show the world what we’ve conjured up.”
Maria has been talking about pursuing a solo project for nearly a decade, having told Metal Hammer magazine back in December 2017 that she was “thinking, for the first time, of doing a solo album. I’m starting to slowly write, no hard plans,” she said at the time. “I’m not exactly sure when I’m gonna do it, but it’ll be more of the obscure, intimate, quiet side of me. Probably the only drums in it would be tribal drums and probably no distorted guitars. Just the softer side of me. That’s who I am. Chris would not want to do an obscure, artistic, dreamscaping album. That’s not who he is.”
Brink went on to say that she would probably scale back the theatrics for her solo project, adding, “It would be just me and a piano and one dress and candles all over the whole stage.”
Speaking about the idea of performing without the band behind her, Maria said: “It doesn’t frighten me, it sounds amazing. I love change. I’m a Sagittarius and I love adventure and new beginnings. New experiences because it makes me feel like I’m living. When I play piano by myself and sing, something really special happens. I connect to something that I love. My favorite moment in our IN THIS MOMENT set is when I go out by myself to play a song on the piano. That would be me being able to do that for a whole intimate set, and I think it would fill my soul.”
“Sleeping With The Enemy” and the previously released “Heretic” (featuring Kim Dracula) marked the first tastes of IN THIS MOMENT‘s album “Witch”, which came out in late August via Better Noise Music. The LP features guest appearances from DAYSEEKER‘s Rory Rodriguez for “I Want To Believe”; Kim Dracula for “Heretic”; and Kat Von D for a cover of the PINK FLOYD classic “Another Brick In The Wall”.
