VAN HALEN‘s final studio album, “A Different Kind Of Truth”, will be back in print on October 23 from Rhino on CD and as a 2LP set pressed on 180-gram vinyl in a double gatefold package. A limited crystal-clear vinyl version will be available exclusively at participating indie retail stores and from Rhino.com. The lacquers were cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering.

“A Different Kind Of Truth” features Eddie, Alex and Wolfgang Van Halen and was the first original studio album with singer David Lee Roth since the band’s classic multi-platinum album “1984”. Originally released on February 7, 2012, the album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and received widespread acclaim from critics and fans alike.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1974, VAN HALEN changed the rock and roll landscape forever with the release of their self-titled, 1978 debut album displaying unparalleled stage presence, revolutionary musicianship, and extraordinary songwriting abilities. With more than 75 million albums sold worldwide, the band’s record of achievement is hard to top. Presented with two diamond award RIAA certified status for their albums “Van Halen” and “1984”, the band has produced a repertoire of hits that remain some of the strongest and most influential rock songs ever written that fans will admire for decades to come.

In an October 2025 interview with Paul Cashmere of Noise11.com, Wolfgang Van Halen spoke about his contribution to “A Different Kind Of Truth”, the final VAN HALEN album, and how he unearthed and revived songs his father, legendary VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen, had first written in the 1970s. The former VAN HALEN bassist, who joined the band at just 15 years old and shared the stage with his father together from 2006 until 2015, five years before Eddie‘s death, said: “It just felt like it was the right time [for VAN HALEN to release some music]. We had done a tour, and it was, like, ‘Okay, well, the next thing we should do is record something.’ And so it took — I know some of the earlier demos we started recording in 2009, so it took a long time… The fact that that record happened at all, I think, is kind of a miracle. But we pulled it off.”

Elaborating on how the music for “A Different Kind Of Truth” came together, Wolfgang said: “A lot of [the songs on the album] were rooted in original demo ideas that were never completed, so I thought it was a great way of getting the band back into that mindset of how they used to write music. So it was a fun little seed to kind of grow the flower from, so to speak.”

He added: “Yeah, it was a lot of fun. I’m glad I got to at least do that once with Dad and have a making-an-album thing. It was fun. It was a lot of work and it took a lot of time, but I’m very happy with how we got it done.”
