MICHAEL POULSEN's pre-VOLBEAT albums from death metal band DOMINUS to be made available on vinyl

For 25 years, vocalist/guitarist Michael Poulsen has been spearheading Danish rock and roll machine VOLBEAT, releasing nine full-lengths, selling millions of albums, and filling stadiums worldwide. Before fronting VOLBEAT, however, Poulsen formed death metal band DOMINUS, which recorded four fast, brutal albums in the mid-’90s.
Now, for the first time ever, all four full-length DOMINUS albums — “View To The Dim” (1994),“The First 9” (1996),“Vol. Beat” (1997) and “Godfallos” (2000) — will be available on vinyl. Only 500 copies and 30 signed test pressings are available for each worldwide, so be quick! The four albums have all been remastered for vinyl and feature restored artwork.
LPs and test pressings drop September 4 at 3 p.m. CET / 9 a.m. EDT at Volbeat.dk and will also be available from your favorite local record store that same day.

In June 2023, VOLBEAT announced that it had officially parted ways with Caggiano. No reason was given for the split, but the remaining bandmembers said that they wished their “brother Rob all the best with everything he does in the future.” They went on to thank Rob “for ten amazing years.”
A day later, Lund commented on his decision to accept the offer to play with VOLBEAT on the band’s 2023 shows, saying in a statement: “The cat’s out of the bag! Sometimes unexpected things happen in life and this must be said to be one of them: I can now finally reveal that I will be playing stand-in in VOLBEAT for Rob Caggiano on lead guitar on VOLBEAT‘s upcoming summer tour.
“When I was asked by Michael Poulsen if I wanted to help them, I was honestly at first very overwhelmed by the request and found it very difficult to see myself in that role. But after a little time to think and talk with those closest to me, it dawned on me that it was something I could not possibly say no to.
“So this summer takes a somewhat unexpected, but obviously insanely cool turn. I will try to enjoy every moment and just take in the many experiences and impressions that will surely be an experience of a lifetime.”
VOLBEAT‘s latest single, “Time Will Heal”, is the band’s twelfth No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream chart.
The Danish rock and rollers still hold the record for the most No. 1 singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart by an artist based outside of North America.
The new milestone follows “By A Monster’s Hand”, which topped the chart for three weeks earlier this year and marked VOLBEAT‘s eleventh No. 1 single. For those keeping score at home, VOLBEAT set the record back in March 2020 with “Die To Live” (featuring CLUTCH‘s Neil Fallon), which was their eighth No. 1.
VOLBEAT singer and guitarist Michael Poulsen stated about “Time Will Heal”: ”Musically, it’s one of those songs, I’ll say, that’s also a signature VOLBEAT song when it comes to the more pop-rock songs from VOLBEAT. But yeah, lyrically, we are talking about struggling a little bit with life where I think we all know the feeling — suddenly we wake up and we don’t know why we feel bad. Why is this day so terrible? Nothing had happened yet. It’s a feeling. It’s like getting the wrong leg out of the bed. But with life experience, we just know that’s part of life. You will have days where you don’t feel good and suddenly it’s like turning on a switch and the light is there. Where there’s darkness, there will be light. So it’s something where I’m trying to keep a balance in the lyric where you have to accept the bad days just as much as you have to accept the good ones. And while you are in the bad ones, just tell yourself constantly it might get better in two minutes or tomorrow or the day after that everything’s gonna be all right. So the message in that is we all have those days where everything feels wrong and going against you, but tomorrow’s gonna be another day. And it’s very much about appreciating just waking up, being alive. Appreciate what you’ve got.”
“Time Will Heal” and “By A Monster’s Hand” are both taken from VOLBEAT‘s ninth album, “God Of Angels Trust”, which arrived on June 6.

With “God Of Angels Trust”, the Danish band — which has scored ten #1 songs on the Billboard Mainstream Rock airplay chart, the most ever for a band based outside North America — has thrown caution to the wind, ignored comfort zones, and paid little heed to traditional songwriting in the search for something more immediate and surprising. The end result will thrill VOLBEAT‘s dedicated legion of fans.
“In the past, I’ve taken a long time to write and obsessed over so many elements of the songs before finishing them,” says Poulsen. “This time, I wanted to make a VOLBEAT record without thinking too much about it. Instead of following any kind of structure I said, ‘Okay, there are no rules. I can do anything I want. I can start with a chorus or do songs that are just a bunch of verses stacked on top of each other. Anything goes.’ That was freeing for me and made it exciting to write this album.”
Poulsen started working on songs for the follow-up to 2021’s “Servant Of The Mind” in the summer of 2024. VOLBEAT was taking a year-long break from touring to give Michael a chance to recover from throat surgery and to tour with his death metal band ASINHELL. Driven equally by his excitement to record a new VOLBEAT album and by his determination not to follow convention, Poulsen worked on songs for a mere three weeks with bandmates drummer Jon Larsen and bassist Kaspar Boye Larsen. Amazingly, they worked on a new song at every rehearsal. Three weeks into the process, VOLBEAT had arranged half of “God Of Angels Trust”. That’s when Poulsen decided that having no rules meant he could follow his muse wherever it took him, and he veered off on a different path. He and the band still wrote and rehearsed two songs a week, but they started composing more familiar rock songs that drew from traditional elements.
The band entered the studio with their longtime producer Jacob Hansen in the fall of 2024. As with the songwriting, Poulsen wanted to work quickly and rely on instinct, so they just plugged in and started to play. To keep the music sounding urgent and immediate, VOLBEAT recorded live in the studio, playing as few takes as possible before moving from one song to the next.
When it came time to add lead guitar, there was no question that VOLBEAT would tap Flemming C. Lund, who currently tours with the band and worked with Michael in ASINHELL. A mere 13 days after they started working with Hansen, VOLBEAT were finished.
“In some ways, it feels like we’ve come full circle,” Poulsen explains. “If you start drawing a circle over an extended period of time, eventually you’ve going to get back where you started, and that’s how I feel now. I’ve dealt with medical operations, lineup changes, and all these things, and now it feels like a rebirth. It doesn’t feel like we’re doing our ninth studio album, it feels like we’re on our first album again and there’s something really refreshing about that.”
