DELAIN's Martijn Westerholt joins WITHIN TEMPTATION live on stage in Spain

Martijn Westerholt, mastermind of Dutch symphonic metal heavyweights DELAIN and theatrical folk act EYE OF MELIAN, has joined his former band WITHIN TEMPTATION live at this year’s edition of Spanish festival Leyendas del Rock, due to hindrance of new keyboard player Vikram Shankar.
Fan filmed footage of his performance of “Stand My Ground” with WITHIN TEMPTATION is now available. The band is ran by his brother Robert Westerholt and fronted by his siter in law, Sharon den Adel.
Says Martijn Westerholt in an exclusive statement for Arrow Lords Of Metal:
“Despite being away from the band for so long (almost 25 years, ALOM), it did feel somewhat like a homecoming. Foremost, I was glad I could help them out and at the same time, I really enjoyed playing those songs again. They were very welcoming to me, as was the crowd, which is always great. When they asked me I was actually way too busy preparing the last set of DELAIN shows of this year and the upcoming EYE OF MELIAN shows with AURI in Finland, France, The Netherlands and Germany, but this was a call I feel I had to answer. But now my focus is fully back on my own shows again”.
DELAIN have previously announced an extra last show of 2025, to be held in Amstelveen on October 17th. The show comes one day before the previously announced last show in Metropool, Enschede on October 18th. After the show, the band will hit the lab and concoct a very special plan to coincide with their 20th anniversary of their debut album ‘Lucidity’ in 2026. The band announced the extra show on their social media.
Delainers! As already anticipated on a previous announcement, we have decided to expend all our energies and efforts to make our eighth full-length studio album the most epic album you could ever imagine to celebrate our 20 years of existence. For this reason, we’re not booking any more live shows for a long time so we can focus on songwriting 🌟
That being said, we are adding one more show on 𝗢𝗰𝘁 𝟭𝟳𝘁𝗵 in 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗲𝗻, 𝗡𝗟. We intend for this and Enschede on Oct 18th to be our LAST live shows for about a full year.

In November 2024, DELAINreleased their very extensively filled EP ‘Dance With The Devil’ under longtime label Napalm Records. The EP followed the release of their full length album ‘Dark Waters’, from 2023. The album marked the triumphant return of the band around mastermind Martijn Westerholt, after revamping his band’s entire line-up. The song, titled “The Reaping”, cut from the new offering was released.

“’The Reaping’ is a very expressive song with a serious subject – where the world/society is heading and metaphorical storms on the horizon. Musically the song can be recognized as a typical DELAIN song filled with heavy guitars, but also with the very recognizable 80’s synth elements DELAIN is known for”.
