INHUME singer Dorus van Ooij takes break, THE LUCIFER PRINCIPLE frontman Earik Mortem steps in

24-09-2024

Long-running Dutch death metal band INHUME have enlisted THE LUCIFER PRINCIPLE frontman Earik Mortem. Mortem steps in for lead singer Dorus van Ooij, who is on a year and a half break to travel the world by bike. Last festival season, Mortem and Van Ooij shared the stage on several of the band’s shows.

Says Mortem:
Honestly, I never would have guessed this myself either. We’re both death metal and we are both from the Netherlands, but at the same time, we are very different bands and, frankly, very different singers. Furthermore, the opportunity arose in the same year my own band, THE LUCIFER PRINCIPLE, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. And I didn’t want to take any attention away from that.
But the band had a plan and welcomed me to it and all the guys have been so great in rolling out the blood red carpet for me. Some of you may have already seen Dorus and me together on stage at some festival appearances this year,  singing the INHUME songs together. Well, that was a warm-up, I can now reveal. I am really looking forward to keep the band going while Dorus is out on his journey the next year and a half.

THE LUCIFER PRINCIPLE was founded in 2004 by Mortem, after the break-up of progressive death metal band PRE MORTEM. The band is a much sought after act on many extreme metal festivals, due to the energetic  and enticing performance of frontman Mortem. The band’s last release is ‘Play Dead’, from 2017. This year, the band celebrated its 20th anniversary with a performance on the Belgian festival Alcatraz, on whch they played the first edition too. Mortem also fronts the punk-driven death metal band KILLING CULT SOCIETY.
