Dean Guitars releases the new Icon Select electric guitar
Dean Guitars is introducing the new Icon Select electric guitar. This latest addition to Dean’s Select Series comes with exclusive Seymour Duncan pickups and available in a choice of two finishes. According to Dean, “the Icon Select offers all the sounds ever needed in a universally admired style“.
Designed for professionals by professionals, the Icon Select starts off with a classic, tight-grained mahogany body and carved top contour. The Icon Select Classic Black offers a mahogany top with a smooth black finish, while the Icon Select Flame Top Ocean Burst offers flame maple in Ocean Burst finish. Dean uses 5-ply multi-binding on the body, neck, and quill headstock.
Like other guitars in Dean’s Select Series, the Icon Select has a 3-piece mahogany set-through-neck (24 3/4’’ scale) with dual-action truss rod. The satin finish on the back of the neck is extra smooth “to improve comfort and playability“. On the Icon Select models, Dean uses pearloid Icon inlays for the ebony fretboard’s 22 jumbo frets (12’’ radius). The standard nut width (1 11/16’’) is chosen to pair with the Tune-O-Matic-style bridge on Dean’s exclusive Cadi hardtail, which has high mass for extra sustain. Grover® tuners on the headstock assist with precise and consistent tuning.
The Icon Select has exclusive Seymour Duncan APH-1 and SH-5 pickups in a custom zebra parchment finish with sandblasted pole pieces. The APH-1 Alnico II Pro™ is a versatile neck pickup (for both classic and modern tones), while the SH-5 has been described as “P.A.F. (patent applied for) on steroids” with harmonic structure.
Dean keeps the controls on the Icon Select simple and effective with volume, tone, and 3-way toggle. Black knobs and hardware polish off the classic features of the Icon Select.
Both Dean Icon Select models are priced competitively at street prices of $899 (Classic Black) and $949 (Flame Top Ocean Burst).
