Former MR. BUNGLE member Theobald "Theo" Brooks Lengyel found guilty of first-degree murder

Former Mr. Bungle member Theobald “Theo” Lengyel was found guilty of first degree murder on Friday, October 11 and is currently facing life in prison.

Lengyel was found guilty of killing his girlfriend, Alice “Alyx” Hermann, inside her home in Capitola, CA. Lengyel was arrested this past January after law enforcement found Hermann‘s body in a park in Berkeley, CA. Hermann had been missing since December.

According to CBS San Francisco, A pivotal moment in the case came when prosecutors played an audio recording allegedly from Hermann‘s phone of Hermann begging for her life while Lengyel strangled her to death.

According to a notification published by the El Cerrito Police Department at the time, Herrmann was last seen in Santa Cruz, CA, on December 3, 2023. Herrmann was reported missing by her relatives on December 12, 2023, after not hearing from her for over a week. El Cerrito investigators located her vehicle in front of the home of her boyfriend, 54-year old Theobald “Theo” Brooks Lengyel, in El Cerrito, CA.

The notification named Lengyel as a “person of interest in Alice Hermann‘s disappearance” and stated that he had “not cooperated with the police investigation.”

Lengyel and Hermann were previously married and had filed for divorce in 2017 after a domestic violence incident. At the time, Hermann file a restraining order against Lengyel.

Kamakaokalani was last seen on December 3, 2023, prompting a missing person investigation from law enforcement agencies.

The Capitola Police Department, in conjunction with the El Cerrito Police Department, initiated an investigation into her disappearance on Dec. 12, 2023.

Detectives from the Capitola Police Department gathered evidence, conducted interviews, and collaborated with partner agencies to piece together the circumstances surrounding Kamakaokalani‘s disappearance.

As the investigation progressed, it became clear that foul play was involved, leading to the identification of Lengyel as a suspect.

The investigation led investigators to recover human remains in a wooded area within Tilden Regional Park in Berkley.

The identification of the human remains is pending DNA confirmation from the Contra County Coroner’s Office.

“The diligent work of our investigators, in coordination with our law enforcement partners, has led to the apprehension of Theobald Lengyel in connection with the tragic homicide of Alice Kamakaokalanil,” a Capitola police statement read. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.

Lengyel is currently in custody, and the Capitola Police Department will work closely with the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office to ensure a thorough prosecution of the case.

Lengyel played saxophone, clarinet, and keyboards in Mr. Bungle between 1986 and 1995. Lengyel performed on all of Mr. Bungle‘s releases from The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny in 1986 to Disco Volante in 1995.
