MEGADETH recorded a JUDAS PRIEST cover for an upcoming AMAZON project

18-08-2022

Dave Mustaine has revealed in a new interview with Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF radio station that MEGADETH recently recorded a cover of a JUDAS PRIEST song “for an Amazon project that they asked us to do.” Regarding how he and his bandmates approached the recording of the track, the MEGADETH leader said: “We went and listened to the song and charted out the performance. And going into that kind of micromanaging of the song, that minutiae production, we started to see a lot of things in the song where it seemed like there was no guide for the song. So we did everything the way that we do our recordings. And I believe it got a little more straightforward with the riffing and everything.

A few years ago, Mustaine picked JUDAS PRIEST‘s “Sad Wings Of Destiny” as one of the albums that changed his life. He said: “When it comes to classic heavy metal, JUDAS PRIEST‘s ‘Sad Wings Of Destiny’ is definitely one of the all-time great opuses. Hearing Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing‘s unison guitar playing and hearing Rob Halford let rip … Who sings like that? Nobody. I was so entranced by that band and everything about them, that I went to a hat store and bought a Fedora because Glenn Tipton was wearing one on the back of ‘Sad Wings…’ I have curly hair so hats don’t stay on so well. It didn’t last very long. (Laughs)”

Megadeth have recently released a new single titled “Soldier On!”. The song comes from the band’s upcoming album “The Sick… the Dying… and the Dead!”, which is due for release on September 2.

Watch “Soldier On!” below.

“Soldier On!” is the 3rd single to be shared from the group’s new studio effort, following the acclaimed “We’ll Be Back” and the divisive “Night Stalkers”, the latter featuring the rapper Ice-T.

“The Sick… the Dying… and the Dead!” will be available on CD, vinyl, and cassette, as well as on all the usual streaming platforms. There’ll be a limited deluxe edition of 2xLP featuring a bonus seven-inch with the unreleased B-Side of “The Conjuring (Live)”.

The album features former Death and Sadus and current Testament bassist Steve DiGiorgioDiGiorgio is widely renowned as a pioneer on the fretless bass in heavy metal music, having played with TESTAMENTDEATH and SADUS, among others. Within his genre, Steve is respected for his playing skills, versatility and incredible technique. He has more than 40 studio album recordings and over 20 years of touring the world.

LoMenzo joined MEGADETH in 2006 and appeared on two of the group’s studio albums, 2007’s “United Abominations” and 2009’s “Endgame”. He was fired from the band in 2010 and replaced with Ellefson, who was in MEGADETH from the band’s inception in 1983 to 2002, and again from 2010 until his latest departure.

LoMenzo played his first show with MEGADETH in nearly 12 years in August 2021 in Austin, Texas.

Ellefson laid down his bass tracks on MEGADETH‘s sixteenth LP in May 2020 at a studio in Nashville, Tennessee. A short time later, he raved about his performance on the record, telling the 96.7 KCAL-FM radio program “Wired In The Empire” that his musical chemistry with MEGADETH drummer Dirk Verbeuren was comparable to the interplay between Geddy Lee and Neil Peart on classic RUSH albums. “I feel like on the new MEGADETH record, me and Dirk have those same moments,” he said. “It’s MEGADETH — it’s not RUSH, obviously — but in the field of what we do, there were these moments that I was just going, ‘Oh, my God.’ This is me as a kid going, ‘This is my Geddy/Neil moment right here.'”

In July 2021, Mustaine announced during an episode of his Gimme Radio program “The Dave Mustaine Show” that Ellefson‘s bass tracks would not be used on the new MEGADETH LP.
