The Exile Select Floyd Fluence Black Satin represents the latest addition to Dean’s revamped Exile Select Series, introduced nearly one year ago with high-performance players in mind. Dean balances the beast with an alder body and top, providing a good balance of low, mid, and high frequencies. The resulting clarity sets the full-bodied tone for a guitar that’s much more than a shred sled. Meanwhile, the arm contour improves playing comfort, while a menacing, yet smooth Black Satin finish—a new addition to the Exile Select Series—is the coat of choice.

The Exile Select Floyd Fluence Black Satin offers a high-access heel joint, so players have the ability to reach every note. The sturdy 3-piece maple neck is a bolt-on with dual-action truss rod. The Slim D neck offers a thin profile that’s preferred among shredders, but with enough roundness so players won’t shred their hand on the edges. The sleek ebony fingerboard (16-inch radius) offers 24 jumbo frets with discrete pearled small offset dot inlays.

The Exile Select Floyd Fluence Black Satin has a traditional 25 1/2-inch scale and a neck width that starts with the traditional 1 11/16-inch width at the Floyd Rose R3 nut, but then broadens to 2.28 inches at the last fret. The varying width provides players more room for blistering solos in the high register. The corresponding Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo system allows for tuning stability and dependability, aided by reliable Mini Grover 18:1 black tuners on the headstock. Single-ply white neck and headstock binding, along with a chrome foil logo atop the Satin Black headstock, put the finishing touches on an overall elegant neck design.

Elegance soon gives way to fury with the Fishman Fluence Modern Black humbuckers at the neck and bridge. These pickups avoid the hum and noise that plague even the most coveted wire-wound pickups. Free from these frustrating inductance issues, the Fishman Fluence pickups reveal pure, uncorrupted, and musical tone. The pickup controls are versatile yet simple, with a 3-way blade pickup selector and innovative push/pull function on the tone knob that is sure to unleash the beast.
