AT THE GATES launches official full-album animated movie for 'The Ghost Of A Future Dead'

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES released their latest studio album, “The Ghost Of A Future Dead”, worldwide this past April via Century Media Records and the album marked a special tribute to frontman Tomas Lindberg, who tragically passed away in September 2025.
As part of the release campaign for “The Ghost Of A Future Dead”, longtime AT THE GATES collaborator Costin Chioreanu (Twilight 13 Media) prepared a massive conceptual visual storyline which enhances the entire album’s music and lyrics. Having previously already released the animated paintings in videos for the songs “The Dissonant Void” and “In Dark Distortion”, the rest of the videos for the other album songs as well as the “full album video” can now be experienced below.
Costin Chioreanu, who handled the painting, filming, editing and producing the project, checked in with the following comment about it: “This is by far the most intense project I’ve done, not only due the circumstances but also because the album is so intense and it requires an insane rhythm for the whole dynamic. It is also the first time that I am doing a full album art video and, honestly, I think it will remain singular of this kind in my career, as I’ve been over several of my limits with this one. But I am so happy that I could finish this monument for my friend Tomas and for his magical band, who will remain with my heart and my memory till the end of my time here and beyond.”
The album’s powerful opening song “The Fever Mask” was previously also launched with a heartfelt in memory tribute video to Tomas Lindberg assembled by longtime collaborator Patric Ullaeus (rEVOLVER).
“The Ghost Of A Future Dead” was recorded and mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden. The LP comes with artwork created by Robert Samsonowitz.
Earlier this year, AT THE GATES have revealed the second single for their album “The Ghost Of A Future Dead”, out since April 24, 2026 via Century Media Records. The video was directed by Costin Chioreanu (Twilight 13 Media).

The follow-up to 2021’s wildly adventurous “The Nightmare of Being“, this upcoming release marks a special tribute to frontman Tomas Lindberg, who tragically passed away in September 2025.

AT THE GATES checked in with the following comment about “The Ghost Of A Future Dead”: “We are proud to finally share some news about our eighth studio album, ‘The Ghost Of A Future Dead’. The album will be released on April 24, 2026 — more than two years after it was completed in the studio.
“As you all know, Tomas Lindberg passed away last year due to complications from his cancer treatment. Over the past few years, we worked closely with Tomas, discussing and refining every detail to ensure nothing was left to chance.
“In accordance with Tomas‘s wishes — including the album title, sound mix, track order, artwork, and overall presentation — ‘The Ghost Of A Future Dead’ remains true to form. It combines the ferocious energy and hard-hitting powerful melodies that is the essence of AT THE GATES. This album is Tomas‘s legacy”.
Lindberg died on September 16th, 2025, after a battle with cancer. He was 52 years old.
