FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH cancels show in Mexico City as support act for METALLICA after IVAN MOODY'S injury

30-09-2024

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has been forced to cancel its appearance in Mexico City on Sunday (September 29) as the support act for METALLICA due to an injury sustained by FFDP singer Ivan Moody. Replacing the Las Vegas-based metallers on the bill will be the Mexican metal band AGORA.

On Saturday (September 28), METALLICA released the following statement via social media: “Tomorrow we wrap up this incredible second year on the M72 Tour with the final show in Mexico City. Unfortunately, @5fdp, our tour mates for the last two years, will not be there due to injury. We’re so sorry to hear about Ivan‘s mishap and we’re sending him much love and good vibes for a speedy recovery.

“Joining us instead will be @agoraoficial, who are no strangers to the local and international festival circuit as they’ve played with GUNS N’ ROSESJUDAS PRIESTIRON MAIDENDEF LEPPARD, and KISS, just to name a few. With over twenty years of recording and touring under their belt, we’re excited to see them hit the circular stage first tomorrow at 6:30 PM. Our friends ICE NINE KILLS will follow, just before our set.

“A huge thanks to AGORA for stepping up.”

Moody fractured his rib while performing with his FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH bandmates this past Thursday (September 26) at the Louder Than Life festival at Highland Festival Grounds at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

The 44-year-old singer sustained the injury during the eleventh song of FIVE FINGER‘s set, “IOU”, on the first day of the festival when the weather turned rainy toward the end of the day. Video of the incident (see below) shows Moody losing his footing as he makes way across the stage, before quickly lifting himself back up and continuing with the final song of FIVE FINGER‘s regular set.

Moody later took to his Instagram Stories to offer an update on his condition, explaining that he had a “bruise that’s running from the inside of my armpit down to the side of my knee.” In addition, he said that his hand felt “like it’s shattered.”

After visiting a local hospital, Moody said that the final diagnosis was a “fractured fucking rib.” He added: “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me. It’s always something, man. Well, I will say this much: it was worth it. Louder Than Life. For real real.”

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH shared a fan-filmed video of the incident and added in a separate post: “At @louderthanlifefest this past Thursday, @ivanmoody fell and broke his rib during the song ‘IOU’ – as the rain poured and despite the fall Ivan was able to finish the set. As a result, we will not be able to play the show with @Metallica in Mexico City tomorrow night.

“We’d like to thank METALLICA for bringing us on this incredible journey for the past two years and also express our sincere apologies to the fans in Mexico City for any inconvenience.

“Wishing our brother @ivanmoody a speedy recovery”.

Earlier this year FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH have released the digital deluxe version of their album “AFTERLIFE” via Better Noise Records. The deluxe edition includes the original 12 tracks recorded with the band’s longtime producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Disturbed), in addition to four bonus tracks including three acoustic versions of the album’s songs “The End,” “Judgement Day,” and “Thanks For Asking” plus the single, “This Is The Way,” featuring the late legendary rapper DMX. To further celebrate the release, Five Finger Death Punch have shared the music video for “This Is The Way (feat. DMX)” directed by none other than filmmaker Hype Williams, a longtime friend and close collaborator of the late DMX. Hailed by the New York Times in 2024 as “The Nineties Wunderkind,” Hype Williams is known for his seminal work with luminaries like TupacWu-Tang Clan, and Jay-Z amongst others.

“Music is meant to be universal and without boundaries, and it starts at the top with us, the artists,” says Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory. “We have always embraced the mixing of genres, whether it be the remake of LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” featuring Tech N9ne as a guest, or our collaboration with blues warrior Kenny Wayne Shepherd, country star Brantley Gilbert, and Brian May, the legendary guitarist of Queen, on the song ‘Blue on Black.’”

“The idea of collaborating with DMX had been in discussion for years, and it was a long and winding road to turn this particular item on our wish list into reality. He was a lyrical warrior, a true original who spoke his mind incorruptibly. We have always viewed DMX as “the metalhead of hip-hop’ because of his aggressive, raw, and untamed style. He growled and snarled, aiming to rattle some cages–an attitude we share, as Five Finger Death Punch has always been drawn to the fearless and the real. It made all the sense in the world, but today this is more than just a song; it’s a salute to a legend, a way to honor DMX‘s memory.”

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has pushed back the release date of the digital deluxe edition of “AfterLife”, the band’s critically acclaimed ninth studio album, to April 5 from the previously announced February 9 via Better Noise Music. The deluxe version will include the original 12 tracks recorded with the band’s longtime producer Kevin Churko (OZZY OSBOURNE) in addition to four bonus tracks: three acoustic versions of the album’s songs “The End”“Judgement Day” and “Thanks For Asking” plus a brand new song, “This Is The Way”, featuring the late rapper DMX. An official music video for “This Is The Way (Featuring DMX)” is directed by none other than highly influential filmmaker Hype Williams, a longtime friend and close collaborator of the late DMX. Hailed by The New York Times in 2024 as “The Nineties Wunderkind,” Hype Williams is known for his seminal work with luminaries like TupacWu-Tang Clan and Jay-Z, among others. The video will be released to coincide with the deluxe edition of “AfterLife” on April 5.

In other news, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH is celebrating three recent platinum certifications for some of the band’s most popular releases: the “Blue On Black” 2019 single featuring Kenny Wayne ShepherdBrantley Gilbert and Brian May; the “Blue On Black” 2018 single; and the “Got Your Six” 2015 album.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Zoltan Bathory says about “This Is The Way (Featuring DMX)”: “Music is meant to be shared, and it starts at the top with us, the artists. We have always embraced the mixing of genres, whether it be the remake of LL Cool J‘s ‘Mama Said Knock You Out’ featuring Tech N9ne as a guest or our collaboration with blues warrior Kenny Wayne Shepherd, country star Brantley Gilbert, and Brian May, the legendary guitarist of QUEEN, on the song ‘Blue On Black’.

“The idea of collaborating with DMX had been in discussion for years, and it was a long and winding road to turn this particular item on our wish list into reality. He was a lyrical warrior, a true original who spoke his mind incorruptibly. We have always viewed DMX as ‘the metalhead of hip-hop’ because of his aggressive, raw, and untamed style.
