SORDID EMPIRE recruits former BLEEDING GODS bassist Gea Borren

28-10-2025

Dutch ambient doom/sludge metal band Sordid Empire announce they have reruited former BLEEDING GODS bassist Gea Borren. Borren steps in for core member Eveline, who is unable to fulfil live duties for the unforeseen future.

Says the band:

“Sad & Good news
Due to personal circumstances, our bassist Eveline will be stepping back from Sordid Empire. Of course, she will remain involved with the band and will return when the time is right.
This meant that we had to look for a replacement. Fortunately, we quickly found one in a friend who is willing to take on this role.
This marks a comeback after seven years. She played her last show with Bleeding Gods in 2018, but as of today, we welcome Gea to Sordid Empire.
Give her a warm welcome!”

With the announsement the band breaks a 7 year hibernation for Borren.

Last year Sordid Empire signed to Brutal Insanity Records. Earlier that year, the band released their debut demo album ‘Blackest Thoughts’ on June 21st (2024). The demo album marks the recording debut of the band and contains 3 heart-wrenching songs from the studio and one live recording,. ‘Blackest Thoughts’ contains a guest appearance by mezzo soprano AJ and spans well over 48 minutes.

Says: Brutal Insanity Records:
With the upmost pride I can announce that Brutal Insanity Records will be working together with Dutch Ambient Doom Sludge masters Sordid Empire!!

Stream their demo album ‘Blackest Throughts‘ below.

Sordid Empire was founded in 2023 by bassist and lyricist Eveline, with a profound need to express herself lyrically. The musical inspiration is drawn from bands that have existed for a long time or have left their mark, such as Celtic Frost (Monotheist), Triptykon, Winter, Samael, Sunn O))), Oak, the old Anathema and My Dying Bride. Sordid Empire forges a unique sound of Doom/Sludge, with Ambient influences, characterized by intense screams, powerful guitar tones, basslines saturated with heavy fuzz, and drum rhythms that act as pounding thunders. The long and immersive tracks, featuring Eveline’s deep and very personal lyrics combined with the music from Remco and Maarten.

Early 2024 the band launched itself with a live show, showcasing their unique blend of styles, immediately leaving a lasting impression and leading into the invitation of more shows, soon to be announced.
