Guitarist Simone van Straten quits SISTERS OF SUFFOCATION

Guitarist and founding member Simone van Straten has announced her departure from Dutch death metal band Sisters Of Suffocation. Van Straten says her musical interest has shifted over the last couple of years and that she is already preparing a new project. She was recently voted fifth in the poll for best guitarist Benelux, in the Dutch magazine Gitarist.
A new adventure awaits!!!
For the last 10 years I’ve been active with Sisters Of Suffocation. As one of the main founders I loved writing the songs, playing the guitar and performing on stage for all the fans we’ve gained through the years.
However, the last couple of years I’ve come to realise that my musical interests have changed and that I want to challenge myself more in terms of songwriting and different creative ideas. This is why I’ve decided to quit as guitar player and main songwriter for Sisters of Suffocation and pursue something new.
I would like to thank all the people that supported me and the band all those years, without all of you my musical journey would not have been possible and I am very grateful for this!
I wish the remaining members of the band the best of luck in their future endeavours, it has been a blast and step by step this has helped me find my personal sound and preferences. Thank you so much!
While I can’t say much about it at this moment, I am working on material for a new, yet to be revealed, band. It’s safe to say I am very happy to explore this new opportunity and can’t wait to share the news with all of you!
Sisters Of Suffocation was founded as an all-female death metal band until drummer Kevin van den Heiligenberg joined them in between 2018 and 2019. They have released two full length albums. Their last record, ‘Humans Are Broken’, was released in 2019, under Napalm Records.
Guitarist Simone van Straten has frequently toured as replacement guitarist in Burning Witches, who have recently enlisted THE IRON MAIDENS guitarist Courtney Cox. She has previously stepped in for Prika Amaral in Nervosa on tour.
