METALLICA fans have caused a small earthquake during a recent show

METALLICA being one of the world’s greatest metal bands isn’t just ascertainable from their music, number of live shows, or even acknowledgements like the Grammy Awards. To be truly great, you have to move people with your music.
Usually, this is metaphorical, but Metallica made it true on Wednesday, May 7, when they performed at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University’s Lane Stadium. At the all-important moment of their show, when they began playing “Enter Sandman,” the attending fans started jumping in unison to the rhythm.
The synchronised jumping of the 60,000 concert-goers caused the earth to shake a little bit, so the Virginia Tech Seismological Observatory (VTSO) was able to record ground tremors. The seismic activity, now named the “Metallica Quake,” was too minor to register on the Richter scale or be assigned a rating, but hey, what other band can boast they moved the earth itself?
Virginia Tech Athletics made a small comment on the quake, sharing a video of the crowd in action and writing:
“Thanks for jumping with us, Metallica! Come back anytime!”
METALLICA released their last album ’72 Seasons’ 14th in April 2023.
Speaking on the concept of the album title, Hetfield says: “72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”
The complete track listing for “72 Seasons” is:
- 72 Seasons
- Shadows Follow
- Screaming Suicide
- Sleepwalk My Life Away
- You Must Burn!
- Lux Æterna
- Crown Of Barbed Wire
- Chasing Light
- If Darkness Had A Son
- Too Far Gone?
- Room Of Mirrors
- Inamorata
Says METALLICA: “The album package was once again conceived and art directed by our good friend, acclaimed designer David Turner and his team. David, who won a Grammy for his work on ‘Death Magnetic’, is the man behind the look and feel of all of our recent releases, including ‘Through The Never’, ‘S&M2’, and ‘Hardwired’.”
