Dit zes-koppige outfit is ontstaan uit de assen van verschillende andere bands, waaronder Farewell Unknown, Ghost Runner on Third en Atherton. Het muzikale pallet van Dance Gavin Dance bevat echt alle smaken, en gaat van  heavy metal & rebelse hardcore-punk zoals The Mars Volta en Coheed & Cambria dat maken, naar melodische screamo zoals Thursday en Taking Back Sunday dat zo goed doen, afgetopt met een toefje melancholische pop volgens de signature van Death Cab For Cutie.
